What Happens During a Damp Survey?
A worthwhile damp survey should explain the evidence, not simply circle high meter readings and attach a standard injection quotation.
The inspector should take a history
When the problem started, how it reacts to weather and whether floors, paths or plumbing have changed can all point towards the source.
Outside inspection is important
DPC levels, render, ground, rainwater goods, gullies and ventilation should be considered where relevant.
Readings need interpretation
Meter patterns can support a diagnosis but should be related to materials, salts and construction rather than treated as proof in themselves.
Expect a reasoned specification
A useful report should say what is thought to be wrong, why, what work is proposed and what alternative causes have been considered.
