Rising damp guide

How Much Does Rising Damp Treatment Cost?

The cost can range from a modest correction to ground levels or plaster through to a larger treatment involving several rooms. The diagnosis controls the job, so headline prices are often misleading.

A damp-proofing repair in progress, with lower plaster removed to expose masonry at the base of a wall.
Plaster and masonry often need attention together, especially where salts and old moisture damage are involved.

Length and thickness of wall

A short internal partition is a very different job from several long, thick external walls. Wall construction affects drilling, material quantities and drying.

Plaster can be a large part of the work

Removing skirting, hacking off salt-contaminated plaster, replastering and later redecoration can cost as much as or more than the DPC operation itself.

Access and hidden problems

Kitchen units, radiators, fitted furniture and floors can complicate access. Timber damage, cavity debris or leaking services can also change the scope once exposed.

Compare specifications, not just totals

Two quotes are difficult to compare if one includes replastering and another only includes injection. Ask each contractor to state what is being treated and what is excluded.
